Jack Brisben of Sea Girt, N.J., is selling Galactitags, ''military dog tags imprinted with what is known as the Pulsar map.''

The map is part of the message to inhabitants of other planets that is bolted onto the Voyager and Pioneer spacecraft. It pinpoints the location of Earth.

''I contend,'' Mr. Brisben said, ''that if you are wearing your Galactitags and are abducted by alien beings, the tags could help return you to Earth.''

Mr. Brisben expects to sell a lot of Galactitags to the other space cadets at the fair.

Close encounters of a dog tag kind:

Captain Kirk might have saved his Star Trek crew a couple of episodes and several light years

of wandering if he'd been wearing a Galactitag-a dog tag with an imprint of the map used on NASA's Voyager and Pioneer 11 space probes.

The tags, designed by Jack Brisben of Sea Girt, feature a personalized message on one side and a map on the other, which pinpoints the location of earth and other intelligent life forms in the universe. Brisben says he got the idea for the tags about ten years ago while watching a documentary on the space program, but didn't start producing them until last year. They are advertised and sold through Astronomy magazine, and manufactured in Louisville Kentucky.

The point of the tags, according to Brisben: "If you get lost or are visited by alien beings, you can be returned to earth." The Galactitags were displayed last November at the Fad Fair111 in New York City. With orders now passing the 500 mark, Brisben says yhe tags are beginning to be purchased as a novelty item by the general public. "A lot of parents seem to be going for them," he says. "They can personalize the tags as a fun way to get their kids to wear Ids."Galactitags can be purchased from P.O. Box 262 Sea Girt N.J. 08750.
